Sales Representative- Gypsum Solutions

POSITION SUMMARY The Gypsum Solutions Sales Representative is the primary sales, technical, and service-related resource for USG Industrial & Performance Flooring customers in assigned territory. The representative will effectively manage sales of select mineral, specialty plaster, and gypsum cement products used in a variety of markets, including but not limited to construction, distribution, agricultural, architectural ornamentation, Portland cement, fireproofing, and other manufacturing industries within a multi-state geography. This exciting, fast-paced opportunity has responsibility for Northern California, Northern Nevada, and Utah. Candidate location will be based within the territory, preferably near a metro area.
Candidate will demonstrate strong relationship building skills with an array of customer types, understanding multiple product supply and distribution channels while implementing the appropriate business strategies for each. Candidate will effectively communicate and extract technical information to/from the market while demonstrating solution-based selling in both commodity and non-commodity markets, including hands-on product demonstrations when needed.
Job responsibilities include providing sales support and service to an existing customer base, prospecting and developing new opportunities/markets, and communicating market intelligence that guides near, mid, and long-term strategic planning. The sales representative will work cross-functionally with other USG departments (customer service, quality, manufacturing, transportation, credit, and research) to ensure customer needs are met in the critical areas of service, quality, and accurate accounting. A successful sales representative can build strong relationships with key internal and external contacts. The candidate will use sound judgement and ethical behavior to conduct USG business with integrity and an emphasis on safety.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Includes the following and performs additional responsibilities as assigned:
· Act as a technically oriented sales expert and business consultant to customers, specifiers, and influencers within the markets served by the USG Gypsum Solutions business.
· Meet sales and profit goals by working closely with internal and external cross-functional stakeholders and disciplines in order to effectively execute sales strategies. Includes identifying targets that provide profitable new business through share gain and/or new market applications.
· Understand and monitor territory sales transactions and financial performance and identify irregularities.
· Work within the larger USG organization to ensure appropriate information is shared effectively for planning capacity, optimizing logistics, maintaining high service levels, and ensuring a full and accurate accounting of business transactions.
· Using Salesforce, plan and prioritize sales activities by monitoring specification activity, conducting prospecting, recording activity and contact detail, and creating/executing key account plans.
· Share technical subject matter related to the Gypsum Solutions product portfolios and systems with all key customers, including manufacturers, specifiers, contractors and distribution.
· Manage, organize, and coordinate customer shipments with USG plants and terminals, including transportation companies, to provide the highest level of service to customers.
· Build and maintain strong business relationships with customers, peers, internal/external stakeholders, and management to maximize effectiveness in the position.
· Maintains confidentiality of privileged company and employee information.
· Extract and communicate competitive intelligence to business leadership. Recommend changes to products, service, and policy by evaluating results and competitive developments.
Qualifications - Internal
KEY QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
· Bachelor’s degree or equivalent field sales experience
Travel Requirements:
· Travel time up to 50% within assigned territory. Some limited travel outside of assigned territory will be required.
Experience:
· Five years of prior sales or consultative technical support experience preferred.
· Building products industry and field experience.
· Previous experience in listed markets is a plus.
· Experience with territory management.
· Salesforce experience preferred.
Required Skills:
· Strong business acumen and professionalism.
· Strong written and verbal communication/interpersonal skills, including negotiating, presenting, professional selling, conflict resolution, and relationship building.
· Ability to safely operate a vehicle and navigate construction job sites.
· Self-motivated, team player who shares information internally and routinely seeks counsel from other team members.
· Salesforce.com power user preferred.
· Effective and independent time management and scheduling of activities.
· Ability to set and self-manage priorities to ensure maximization of account development for both existing and new accounts.
· Proven ability to identify goal impacting decision makers and relationships.
· Solid technological aptitude (MS Office/Outlook, internet prospecting, etc)
· Strong technical expertise, extensive industry knowledge.
· Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus.
Rate of pay may be adjusted based on the qualifications and experience of the candidate.
